Hi Lovelies!
Bringing you Project #4 for the Cat Lovers Hop. (Links to the first two are at the bottom of the page)
I hate to be the bearer of sad tidings, but as crafting cat lovers, I'm sure we've heard about Newton. If not here's their IG announcement.
This one was hard to make - not gonna lie. In many respects harder than scrapbooking what 3 years post-Fossy look like. Is it the suddenness? Definitely in part.
At least for those of us who don't know Newton personally? Maybe. Fossy battled renal failure for years. We had him on blood pressure meds and a special diet which slowed down the progression, but especially towards the end and his increasingly worsening bloodwork, it wasn't unexpected.
Is is Newton's rather iconic status as a cat who started up his own stamp company? This is actually somewhat of a consolation since he will forever live on in the images and the projects we make with them.
Is it because it was so soon after poor Hobbes passed away? For me that was part of it.
I decided to keep it simple. I wasn't sure how hard it would be to get through it, but I wanted to do a bit of a tribute to Newton.
I'm not entirely displeased with the ginger colouring, although Newton appears a bit lighter. Yarn ball is so-so.
I used a circle stencil as a nod to the yarn ball and three colours of Colour Blast Paste. I'm never sure how stuff will adhere to mixed media, so it was Permanent Glue Dots to the back of the sentiment block and on the unsticky side of fun foam for the win!
I stamped (repeatedly) with white pigment ink rather than embossed the sentiment since I was spent and pulling out all my heat embossing stuff was more than I could do at that point.
Sending Hugs Card
That's all for now! I'll be honest in that I'm not sure whether I'll have time for another project since i have a couple of pressing assignments to complete this week! Thanks for all your comments I always read them all and I'm working through commenting on them.

Love and cuddle your kitty!
Just want to say, this was me last year, I lost my Blackie (18yrs) befor the bloghop (my 4th hop with Janis) and as difficult as it was to join in with his memory, it was also very cathartic. My heart goes out to you, so very big hugs. I dont have social media... just a blog. Fly high Newton (heart)
ReplyDeleteoh.. and forgot to say how extraordiary your card is!! Oooooh that background! I have to try that!
DeleteReally love how you created the background and I must try this out someday.
ReplyDeleteI cant really recollect as my last cat was many many years ago when my son was still a baby. Think she loved to leap and broke some fragile things at home. Thanks as always to all your generous giveaways especially you bought them for this special event as giveaway. Would love to meet you if I travel to Oz which is 9 hours by flight from where I live.
I certainly understand your difficulty in doing this sweet tribute to Newton as I only managed one project this Hop in memory of my dear Goliath who died in April (#213 in the Linky). When I heard of Newton's passing so close to Hobbes I burst out in another fit of tears. There have been many throughout this Hop (including for your lovely page honoring Fossy) but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I'm always in awe of mixed media as I collect all kinds of stuff that looks cool and then never use it. Kudos to you! Love the texture and your lovely coloring of Newton. Goliath's worst mischief involved pulling out my lingerie and dragging it around the house in his mouth while meowing mournfully if he wasn't aware of my presence in the house or if we'd gone out and left him. If we'd been gone too long, there would be multiple items strewn about. My biggest fear would be to come home with company, only to find my undies, bra or slip on the stairs or in the middle of the room. Thanks again for the chance at your generous giveaway, Alex. I'm already following you on all social platforms and have enjoyed your posts immensely. xxD
ReplyDeleteLove your card.. Great colors! Newton will be missed..
ReplyDeletelove that NEwton kitty!
ReplyDeletegorgeous card!
That background is wonderful. I'm sorry to hear about your loss and this hop has been a great tribute to all the kitties that were loved, past and present.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be included in the chance to win the bonus prize. I've followed you on all your social media accounts and I'm so glad I did!
DeleteMy project numbers are: 14, 41, 94, 95, 140, 141, 177, 178, 180, 191 and 246.
Again, I forgot to tell you the mischief part. Our first cat, Tasha, use to love to sit in the baby carrier as soon as we took our baby out (she's 30 now). But every time, we would take her out, Tasha would get in. She's was a lovely cat.
DeleteOMGosh, what a sweet tribute to Newton! Absolutely adorable card! ;)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Leslie
Love To Scrap 2
P.S. I would love to be included in the chance to win the 'bonus' prize... my entries into the Cat Lovers Hop are 36, 49, 101, 149, 184, 243. AND our newest rescued addition to our family got herself stuck inside the wall in our previous home. The former owner had left a hole in the drywall behind the washing machine and our little Mocha Latta got herself stuck in the hole and couldn't get out. Hubby had to open the wall on the other side (in our dining room in a lower cabinet) to get her out! Sheesh!
DeleteSuch a wonderful card and fantastic colouring :-)
ReplyDeleteYes - I was saddened to read about Newton earlier this week. So devastating so close to Hobbes too. I am sad for them :-( I know I have a lot of cats, rescues and strays that I feed but I am always so sad to lose one :-(
Visiting you from the Cat Lovers' Blog Hop.

Alex, this is a wonderful salute to Newton. I think your coloring on the yarn ball is marvelous. It's sad to see the hop come to a close but we can all look forward to next year. Cat hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteSweet tribute to Newton! Love the way you colored the image!
ReplyDeleteLove the Newton designs and was so sad to hear the news.
Your card and post is a lovely tribute to Newton, Alex! I LOVE the mixed media background, but haven't some across Colour Blast Paint. It looks tremendous with all the texture and shimmer! Newton is beautifully coloured, as is the ball of wool!
ReplyDeleteIndie was our adventurer cat (full name Indiana Jones, so he had to be!). The worst mischief he got up to was sleeping on next door's bed. Not only did they miss him entering their home, he sneaked upstairs and plonked himself down on their comfy duvet! Apart from that he used to somehow get into the wall flower pots - I have who idea how he managed this as they are quite high up on the wall and small compared to his size. He figured if he got there, as they were next to the back door, he could call to us easier to let him indoors :) He was a truly awesome character!
It has been wonderful seeing your projects for this hop. Thank you for taking time to visit my blog and for leaving lovely comments. See you next year! xx
PS Thanks for the chance to win one of your prizes. I already follow you on all social media since last year. My post numbers are: 13 (unlucky for some!), 53, 102, 148, 186, 247, 258 and 272. xx
ReplyDeleteNewton's passing hit me hard too. And I didn't find out about Hobbes until the same day when I read it on Janis's blog. Very sad. Whenever I read about someone losing a beloved kitty, it brings back my sadness about losing my best kitty ever Muffin. I felt like I knew Newton even though I haven't met him. I love how you coloured him and I also love that amazing and stunning background! Wow! This card is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAs for your question, the mischief that comes to mind is Kiwi. He goes into my craftroom, especially at night, and steal scraps of paper and carries them through the house, meowing loudly. He seems so proud of himself so I always praise him. I'm sure in his mind he thinks he caught a mouse. I found 8 scraps at the foot of my bed this morning! So after this started, I just kept picking up the scraps and putting them back in a special spot in my craftroom so he can 'conquer' them again each night. He does it during the day too but not as much. It's really adorable to see him carry these scraps of paper in his mouth and the meowing sound he makes is so funny! Thank you for your awesome and very generous giveaways! I follow you on all the things!
Having lost 5 kitties over the year, I know how much they mean to us and how much it hurts to lose them. Newton was always a favorite of mine, after I found Newton's Nook products. This sweet card is a lovely tribute to his impact with stampers and cat lovers everywhere...and the pose where he's snuggled against the yarn ball is both sad and comforting.
ReplyDeleteMy mischief story had to do with our Bailey (a feral cat who was never truly tamed). We suddenly started finding claw marks in our bread packages, and a stray partial slice on the kitchen floor every so often. Turns out that Bailey had discovered bread as a midnight snack. We started keeping the bread in a cupboard, and he figured out how to open the cupboard and sneak his bread anyway!
I follow you on Bloglovin', IG and FB...and I have a LOT of projects linked up. Some of them are: 22, 27, 71, 76, 102, 115, 169, 273 and 274. I'm sure there are more but I lost count! Thanks for the generous giveaway Alex!
Gorgeous dotty background for that very sweet Newton image. It's never easy to loose a furby friend. Our cat is crazy. She adopted us when she was under a year old and she was totally oblivious to the cars on the roads around our house. Our worse fear was that she would be run over. My partner had said we wouldn't have another cat cos so many have been hit by cars here. But she adopted us, and you can't argue with a cat. The bad news - she got hit by a car. Thought she was going to die or be crippled but amazingly she made it through seemingly unscathed. She has a healthy respect for cars now, so that's good. But she does like to be as high as she can so I am sure she will be getting herself in trouble again very soon. Hugz
ReplyDeleteOh my! Your card is awesome!!! Beautiful layout and tribute!!! My little kitty Marco loved hiring and sleeping in my little brother's bassinet! : D
ReplyDelete1. I already follow your blog (Arianna Barbara)
2. Follow you on Facebook (Arianna Barbara)
3. Follow you on Instagram (raggiodiluc3)
I've never heard of Color Blast paste, but that background is amazing! And your Newton and yarn ball is perfectly colored too. I was sad to hear about Newton and Hobbes from Janis' blog, so this card is a sweet reminder of how precious he was.
ReplyDeleteMy cats had a nasty habit of peeing into the floor vents, so we had to stop letting roam through the house. I think it got to the point where we had too many kitties, and they started marking territory, even though they were all neutered and spayed. So sad for us..and them.
I follow on all social media and bloglovin' and I entered projects # 20,73,75, 112. 205, 206.
Gorgeous card for a special cat. Our cats get up to all sorts of mischief regularly! Hehe, I think the funniest was when Mr Darcy managed to shut himself in the bathroom and luckily we heard him from downstairs to go and let him out, he was panicking wee soul!

Well, this is a beautiful honorary card for Newton! I am so saddened to know of both Hobbes and Newton's passing ... I hadn't read about Hobbes. I can't even imagine the grief!
ReplyDeleteI love the fun circles BG you created and love how purrfect your kitty is colored (IMO).
Thanks so much for having a pawsome giveaway and for all the beautiful inspiration.
Here are my project numbers: 11, 48, 54, 61, 109, 146, 153, 190, 197, 255, 262 & 278.
And of course I follow you everywhere. lol
Have enjoyed all your posts and really liked each make! Hope you have seen some of mine! Susanrenshaw0404.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to hear about Newton. I like your colorful card.
ReplyDeleteOne of our cats got a yogurt container stuck on her head and it was funny watching her wander about.
This is a lovely tribute to dear Newton and in a way to each of our beloved kitties that have passed. I think inside I revisit that sadness whenever I hear of someone losing a dear furbaby. Your card is so well done...love the ginger stripes and the fabulous b ackground.
ReplyDeleteI am late getting my commenting down this far, so probably not eligible for your drawing. My cats have done a lot of mischievous things, but one that could have been devastating was when I was getting out of the shower and I heard a strange noise coming from my craft area. I hurriedly dried off and rushed out of the bathroom to discover my heat gun (which I had left plugged in) was ON and blasting my craft supplies with blazing heat!!! My Aliyah had walked on my craft table and a well-placed paw had turned the thing on. What a relief the house wasn't on fire and that she was okay. I had some singed pieces of paper and few melted plastic things, but all turned out okay. I have NEVER left my heat gun plugged in ever again!!
I follow you on all your platforms and have enjoyed all your projects. Thanks for your lovely giveaway and thanks so much for playing along in the #2019CatLoversHop!!!

Have to add my 'worst mischief' story... Coco was a holy terror with scratching on the couch! She wouldn't stop no matter what we tried, and the end of the couch was just getting shredded! One morning, my husband heard her meowing. She had squeezed herself into the end of the couch where she'd made an opening in the couch and was stuck inside! He had to slit the fabric so she could get out! Not long after, we decided we HAD to bite the bullet and buy a new couch. We chose a fabric that is very leather-like, and luckily does not attract her to scratch on it! Yay! So happy to have furniture that is not shredded!
ReplyDeleteHello Alex, This is Jen from Newton's Nook Designs. I noticed your card on Instagram which led me to your post and I have to admit it brought tears to my eyes. We are so honored to and humbled to find so many crafters who are saddened for the loss of Newton. Yes, he was old but it was also sudden and unexpected and we are still in shock that he's not with us anymore. We miss him (and Hobbes) terribly. The house is TOO quiet! Thank you so much for this beautiful card in honor of him! It means more than you know! I know he will live on through those who craft using the images inspired by him and that brings a little comfort. Thank you so much for the sweet post and words too! Hugs!

Hi again Alex, I just wanted to add one more note as I forgot to offer my condolences for losing your kitty too! Fossy sounds like such a sweetie! I know renal failure can be tough. Both of our kitties were on prescription kitty food for Kidneys the last few year but they both ended up dying of cancer so it wasn't the renal failure for us. My heart goes to you as your mourn your kitty too. They become such a big part of our lives and it's never long enough! Sending hugs!
